THE 7TH KAPTAGAT ANNUAL TREE PLANTING EVENT

The Corporation had developed a robust Corporate Sustainability (CS) Plan. Under the environment pillar, the Corporation seek to initiate and support projects that focused on environmental conservation through tree planting as a way of giving back to the community and supporting sustainable development efforts.

Participating in the 7th Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme was a step that The Corporation took in fulfilling its initiative. The Kaptagat Forest Tree planting event is an annual tree planting and restoration programme that has registered tremendous success. The Ministry of Environment and Forestry in partnership with other key stakeholders including National Environment Trust Fund (NETFUND), Kenya Forest Service (KFS), World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Kenya), County Governments of Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Community Forests Association (CFA) and other private sector players have over the last six years undertaken annual forest conservation activities motivated by the need to pursue sustainable development, environmental conservation and protection through the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme.

Participating in this event ensured that the Corporation met its target on the performance contract and also advancing the presidential clarion call to help combat the effects of climate change by growing 15 billion trees by 2032.

The conservation efforts include rehabilitation of over 1,100 Hectares, through growing of over 1,320,000 assorted indigenous tree seedlings and distribution of 62,000 high value avocado fruits tree seedlings to neighboring communities.  The Corporation had also participated in the previous editions of the event, which contributed to exemplary performance and also ensured that the Corporation was ranked well in the performance contract.
